Learning to read is not an easy task and teaching reading can be just as hard, buy cialis especially when it is new for both the student and the teacher. My first child learned how to read in the public school system before we started home schooling, seek and I was able to get a few years of home schooling under my belt before I had to teach my second child to read. That time helped me to be a little organized running school time but it did not prepare me for the world of phonics.
I started with a curriculum that is well known and I was sure that success was around the corner. I was wrong. We found the lessons to be long and boring and each time I brought out the books bad attitudes came out on both sides. After 4 months of unsuccessful reading lessons we put the curriculum on the shelf and I began the search for another.
The second curriculum was colorful and most of the work was done in the workbook, so I did not have to keep up with and plan for a lot of little extras. Learning to read was going much better this time around. When we finished workbook 2 out of 4 I started seeing something that bothered me. My child was relying on all of the colorful pictures to read and not using the phonics we were going over every day. I wanted her to be able to read phonetically with ease. So began the search for yet another way to teach reading, and I was not convinced that a full curriculum was what we needed. Eventually I found a reading guide where the lessons were short and easy for me to teach and there were no pictures to use as a crutch. We found success! My child is now reading on her own just for fun! I do a happy dance every time I see her reading on her own.
This journey taught me to be flexible and to not give up. I am sure there will be other obstacles to overcome, I know now that we will get threw them. Home schooling is not always easy but it is worth all of the hard work, tears, and moments of doubt. There is no right or wrong way to teach any subject, you just have to find what works for you and your student. I pray that you find some encouragement from my journey in teaching reading.
