I have been looking for an art curriculum that is right for our family. I am happy to share my 2:1 Conference sponsor See The Light with master artist Pat Knepley! See the Light has a fantastic team of artists who teach children from the basics. The lessons come in a four Volume (dvd) and are about 10-15 minutes long. They have nine volumes. See The Light also produces several story DVD’s in which they tell a Bible story and include art lessons.
Pat Knepley takes her time and easily explains each lesson for the kids. With lesson one, she starts off at the beginning by telling the kids what supplies they will need and then shows them basic lines. My 6 and 7 year old students are comfortable with the pace of this curriculum. The lessons are short enough to hold their attention, yet long enough to get basic instructions and a simple drawing completed.
The materials used with the art lessons are basic and I am sure most homeschoolers already have them in their craft and art supplies. The props the teacher uses are also normal items you would find around a home, like an apple and a shoe. The only suggested supplies I did not have were a black light, extreme pencils, and fluorescent chalk.
What do I like most about Pat Knepley and the See The Light team? They tie in a Bible story with scripture at the end of each lesson!
My children and I are once again excited about learning the basics of drawing and the possibilities of what we will be able to create. Be sure to visit See The Light to learn more about Master Artist Pat Knepley and the rest of the See The Lights Artists!
