A New Year is symbolic of a fresh start for all things, case and most people like to start the New Year with goals for themselves and their family. No matter how big or small the new goals they start with the best of intentions and the spirit of commitment. For me it does not take long for my commitment waver and my goals to start slipping away. I have a hard time making changes and sticking to them. It has taken many years and failures for me to realize that sudden change does not work for me.
Through my mistakes and shortcomings I have found a way that I can make changes in my life. This is a method I use for every situation in my life that needs change. I make change a little at a time. I always have an end goal that is bigger than I can conquer, sales but I work at it in baby steps. When one step is complete with caution and ease I move on to the next. I want to avoid the feelings of being overwhelmed and discouraged. I want to feel success and pride, and baby steps allow me to feel this.
My journey of becoming a home school mom has been filled with constant baby steps. I did not grow up in a home school family and it was a change that turned our world upside down. Our daughter spent kindergarten and first grade in public school, so coming home required big changes for her too. We decided from the beginning that we would home school for one year and at the end of the year we would decided what we would do for the next year. Everything from the decision to become home schoolers, planning, daily routines, and curriculum has been taken one baby step at a time. If I had not taken baby steps I may have become overwhelmed and walked away from one of the greatest blessings ever.
If change is hard for you I recommend taking a step back and looking at how you can break down you end goal into baby steps. The gratification and pride that come with accomplishment are still as sweet when it comes a little at a time.
