The thought of standing in front of a group of people gives me the shakes. Literally. I think having to go before a king would be a wee bit more intimidating, don’t you?
But Esther trusted what God was asking her to do and knew that live or die, she was following His plan for her life.
Esther was a woman who had captured the king’s heart with her simple beauty. I love these thoughts from Sarah this week:
“I think Esther’s skill in bringing life and beauty to others won the battle for the king’s heart and saved the lives of her people….Beauty tells people that they are precious to you and to God, and that the God you serve is delightful.”
p.170 Sarah Clarkson, Journeys of Faithfulness
One of the ways that I always feel closer to God – more intimate, if you will. When I am surrounded by the beauty that He has created, it stirs something deep in my soul. The detailed colors of a bird. The vast expanse of the night sky. In all that He created, God took the time to focus on the most intricate of details. When reading through Exodus 28, that detail even spreads into the clothing that the priests wore – skillfully woven with jewels and precious stones.
Beauty can speak volumes to the hearts of others. Through the littlest details, we can show others how much we care for them. Make our house a home in the details. And quite honestly, when our hearts are filled with love and adoration of God, the One who has created so much beauty that surrounds us, that love and beauty will overflow to those around us.
What one thing can you do this week to bring beauty to your home and family? Leave a comment and chime in with your thoughts.
