My preschooler LOVES to play games. Anytime that I ask him what he wants to do he always asks to play a board game. It has been fun sharing some of my childhood favorite games with my boys. One of the best parts about many of the games I play with my boys is that they also have some educational value as well. It has really been fun adding these games into our homeschool lessons.
Candy Land:
This games is great for learning colors and counting. I have added a little twist for my guys to make it a little more challenging. As we pull the cards from the deck I have my boys say the color and their numbers in Spanish.
Hi Ho Cherry O:
A great way to practice some basic math skills. Practice counting as you take the fruit off the trees. You can practice subtraction as well with your older children. One thing that I really like about this game is the option to work as a team. Instead of competing against each other you work together against the bird.
Chutes and Ladders:
Another great game for counting skills. But the thing that I really love about this game is the character development aspects. I didn’t realize this until I became a mom but the ladders are a result of good character and the chutes from poor character. My boys and I have had great conversations about good and poor character choices while playing this game.
Memory:
This is a game that sparks lots of competition and fun in my home. We love to spread out on the carpet and see who can collect the most matches. Memory is a great way to sharpen those cognitive skills. And for an added challenge we work on our Spanish vocabulary.
SuperWhy ABC Letter Game:
This is a game that I wasn’t too sure of when we first got it but it has been a lot of fun and a great way for my boys to work on their reading and spelling. Your children will practice rhyming, spelling and basic letter/sound recognition with the characters from the PBS show.
So many many many games, yes.. That’s why I’m doing a whole series on games 🙂
