Well it is that time of year. I love cold weather. Snuggling by the fire with a hot cup of coffee. Enjoying time with my family. However, it is so easy to get caught up in all the Holiday spirit and rush things along to get to Christmas.
Slowing Down to Be Thankful
I know how easy it is because Christmas is our favorite holiday ever! We usually start decorating before Thanksgiving is even here. But, this year I want to do things a little different. I don’t want to rush around and skipright over Thanksgiving.
I want to stop and really focus on what all we have to be thankful for.
I want my kids to really think about all the blessings that they have in their lives. I will be steering off of our regular lesson plans throughout this month to incorporate projects that will pull all of the blessings into light. I think that it will be awesome for all of us to see how much we really have to be thankful for.
(I will be pinning some of the project ideas on myThanksgiving Pinterest board if you would like to find some ideas.)
The Holiday Stress
If we aren’t careful we can get sucked into the stress of the holiday season. There have been so many holidays seasons that I have been a complete stress-ball starting November 1st and lasting through the beginning of January.
We start stressing over Thanksgiving dinner. Who is going to be here? What are we going to cook? If you have family our of town you start stressing over travel plans. Not to mention trying to keep up with our school work in the process. Then the day after Thanksgiving we immediately jump into the stress of gift buying for Christmas.
What in the world would it be like to have a stress free end of the year? Right now I can’t really tell you, I have never had one. But, this is the year for me. I have so much to be thankful for this year, so many blessings, including the ability to be homeschooling my kids. Isn’t that enough right there?
Drop the Worry
Stop worrying about how everything will come together.
- How will the finances come through for all that is ahead?
- How will I make each side of the family happy with our planning?
- How will I come up with the money for ALL that needs to be purchased.
You know what? It doesn’t matter! Live in the moment, taking each moment with a new sense of thankfulness. Be thankful for each gift you have been given.
Don’t let stress steal this most precious time of year.
Have a happy, slow, worry-free, thankful, Thanksgiving!
