Praying for the New School Year

by HSVillage 6 Comments

It’s that time of year when we start to gather our homeschooling materials for the upcoming year.  We all get excited when the homeschool catalogs start arriving in the mail.  Some of us even start our list out right away!  As the years go by though, I am learning to do one thing first before I even open up a new catalog.  Pray.

There are several areas that I take time to pray for before I start planning our new school year.  The first one is my childrens’ hearts.  Are they living a life to glorify God? If they aren’t, why not and how can I help them. I will also take a heart check for myself as well.  If my children aren’t doing their best to glorify God, then I must not be modeling the right kind of life for them.

Once I pray and make notes on our hearts, I then will take a look at the previous years test scores.  I do realize that not all tests are accurate to their ability, but it has been fairly close for my children.  Once I see where their weakness is at, I pray and ask God to show me how to help them improve in that area.  I will also talk with my husband and have him to pray for us to make the right decisions, as well.

After I pray for their hearts and for God to show me what direction to take with their learning do I get out the curriculum catalogs and start doing research on the computer.  There are so many curriculum’s to choose from and it can be overwhelming.  I do find once I take the time to pray and share my heart, concerns and needs with God, I am able to make better choices about homeschooling our children.  He cares and wants you to ask for his help!
