I cannot even begin to fathom the emotions that must have rushed through Mary as the angel greeted her as a favored one of God. Hearing that she would be the mother of the Messiah – a young girl {and a virgin at that!} would play a crucial role in his life.
Can you even imagine the range of emotions that you would face?
I loved this line from Sarah Clarkson:
“…the angel…looked down…and saw a young human girl, like all others concerned with the details of how God’s fathomless glory would invade the workday minutes of her life.” p. 71-72, Journeys of Faithfulness
While we may not know every single thought that went through Mary’s mind after her visit from an angel, I am always amazed by her answer ~ “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” {Luke 1:38}
She trusted. Was open and willing. Ready to be a servant ~ but most of all accepted what God had for her. Mary knew the Words of God and carried them in her heart {see her song in Luke 1:46-55}. Because of her knowledge, she had hope and strength to do what she was being asked and called to do.
Are you open and understanding when faced with changes and circumstances in our lives? How does your knowledge of God bring you hope and strength in your life?
