Technology is all around us and although I firmly believe that screen-time should be limited, I also believe there are benefits to using technology with preschoolers. Today I will be sharing two ways we use technology in our home.
1. We use ABCmouse.com.
My kids enjoy it and I love that it full of learning! ABCmouse.com is designed for teaching preschoolers and kindergarteners skills for reading and math. They have so many learning activities to do on the site: online books, educational games, art activities, and even printables. My favorite part of this program is that it sets up lesson plans for your child and they follow it to complete the curriculum for the ability level. This program also encourages independence. It is very easy for a child to use and it helps them learn how to use a mouse and keyboard. My kids also love that they get tickets for each activity, which they can use to buy things on the program. ABCmouse.com does have a low monthly subscription fee, but I think it is totally worth it.
2. We use preschool apps.
We have 10 that are our favorite. They each are fun and engaging, yet they are still learning.
1. Make It Pop – ($1.99) This app makes learning so much fun! It uses fireworks, popcorn kernels, balloons and bubbles introduce the alphabet, shapes, colors, and counting.
2. Do Re Mi 1-2-3 ($2.99) Do Re Mi teaches kids about listening to sounds and making music. This would be a way introduce your child to music in a fun way.
3. PBS KIDS -(FREE) This is an app that let’s you watch episodes from children’s public television shows.
4. Bugs and Buttons– ($2.99) This is probably our most used app. Bugs and Buttons has tons of educational games to keep your little ones busy. My toddler even plays this one!
5. Bob Books #1 – Reading Magic HD– ($3.99) I love BOB books, so it’s no surprise that I like this app. I actually won this app for free, but would have bought it anyway. It’s an extension of the BOB books and it’s fun way for preschoolers to learn to read.
6. Preschool Adventures- ($0.99) This amazing app covers everything for preschool! There’s colors, numbers, shapes, art, body, matching, sounds and typing activities. Your preschooler will love this one!
7. Bugs and Bubbles– ($2.99) This app very similar to Bugs & Buttons, but it has different activities. It has over 50 preschool and kindergarten games!
8. Shapes Toddler Preschool-(FREE) I know the title has toddler in it, but it’s also great for preschoolers! Help your child learn their shapes with this fun, easy app.
9. The Wheels On The Bus– (FREE or $1.99 for Full Version) This bright, cheery app has 10 fun games and of course sings the Wheels on the Bus song. My toddler plays this one a lot.
10. Montessori Numbers – ($2.99) This app helps your child understand the concept of numbers. From counting, to quantity, to tracing numbers…this app covers it all!
