This series is sponsored by my absolute favorite homeschool organizing tool…Scholaric Planner. Scholaric makes my planning life a breeze!
I have a love/hate relationship with the television. There are good programs available, and we love our weekly family movie night, but I hate it when t.v. is the only thing my kids ask to do. Then I know it’s time for a break. Moderation is definitely the key when it comes to t.v. for our family.
That being said, here are our 10 Favorite Education T.V. Programs:
1. Sesame Street – even though my kids are too old for Sesame Street, I could make a favorite list without including this perennial favorite!
2. Wild Kratts – a cartoon show featuring the Kratt brothers. They go on adventures researching and learning about all different kinds of animals.
3. Super Why – helps children learn letter sounds and start to read, a great way to work on those emerging literacy skills
4. Jeff Corwin – he travels around the world looking for strange and exotic creatures.
5. Electric Company – the updated version from the 70’s. I didn’t realize that The Electric Company was meant to be a show that kids could watch when they had graduated from Sesame Street.
6. Cyber Chase – a math focused show for kids. Meant to show that functional math is all around us.
7. Fetch with Ruff Ruffman – in this series teams of children compete in different challenges, each season had a different group of children. Kind of like reality tv for kids!
8. Word Girl – Word Girl is an alien born on a different planet and adopted by a family on Earth. She battles evil while teaching about vocabulary.
9. Signing Time – this series has been a long favorite at our home. All of my children have enjoyed learning some sign language.
10. Miscellaneous Cooking Shows – don’t under estimate the educational value of a cooking show! We don’t have cable, but we like to watch cooking shows when we are at a hotel. It’s fun to learn about different ways of making something or learn about new ingredients.
What did I leave out? What is your family favorite?
