About the Author
David A. Carter is an American author and illustrator. He is best known for his pop-up books for both children and adults.
My Thoughts:
What a cute book! This little pop up is made on thick paper (not as thick as a board book) that has the sweetest designs. Each page has an extensive pop up area that expends the page and draws in your attention.
Along with a poem about the season, each page has animals, plants and items that are commonly found outside in the Summer.
Our little ones love the colorful pages and pointing to the animals and plants. I have enjoyed seeing some surprising images tucked in on the pages.
Because this isn’t a thick board book, and while the pop up portions are made from thick paper; care needs to be taken in handling so the pop ups don’t get bent or torn.
Other books in this series cover Spring, Autumn, and Winter. The series can be purchased on Amazon or found in your local bookstore.
Just in time for spring, this is the second book in the Carter pop-up book series about the seasons. Each spread has a very brief verse and depicts common springtime flora and fauna. All things pictured are labeled (robins, water lilies, deer and fawns, cherry trees, etc.). The text is simple for very young readers to understand and enjoy.
As day turns to night, bright red cardinals flit from branch to branch, deer paw through the snow, and weasels in their white winter coats frolic among the berry-laden holly. Soon all the animals settle down to sleep. In Winter, simple verse and scenes bring to life the countryside as snow begins to fall. Each spread’s pop-up and lift-up flap reveal the wonders of the season and all the animals as they settle down for the night.
Just in time for autumn, David A. Carter delivers the third book in his pop-up book series about the seasons. Each spread has a brief verse and depicts flora and fauna commonly found during the fall. Pictures of turkeys, wheat, pumpkins, sage, and more are labeled with simple text, making the book easy for young readers to understand and enjoy.
The set would be a sweet gift for a little one that loves bright books. We have been incorporating them in with our nature walks as we try to find some of the images in the book. Grab a clip board and our free printable before heading outside to find as many of the items in the book while you enjoy a nature walk.

This looks like a great little book. And even though it is October, I am going to pick up a copy for my son and one for my niece. Thanks.
