How often do our kids, or ourselves, have a bad attitude? I hate how it seems to make a day or event drag on forever! But if we can coax our kids (or us), into a better mood, then everyone usually enjoys themselves! And that’s the point of the book, Whatever Wanda by Christy Ziglar.
The third title in the Shine Bright Kids series, Whatever Wanda! teaches children the importance of having a good attitude.
Wanda is in serious need of an attitude adjustment! She doesn’t want to accompany her family to the Rubber Duck Days Festival, and once there, she won’t participate in any of the events or join in with her friends. Soon Wanda receives some helpful advice and learns that:
‘Sometimes you have to believe something will be great before it actually is. Being positive is a choice that makes everything better, not to mention, a whole lot more fun!’
About Shine Bright Kids:
Choose Right. Shine Bright. The Shine Bright Kids series provides children and their families with the tools to teach the importance of making good choices. The series explores such topics as: using good judgment, taking responsibility, having a positive attitude, and demonstrating perseverance. Ages 4 to 8.
My child can act just like Wanda, rolling his eyes and telling me “whatever” a couple of times a week! And I try to handle it by telling him to change his answer and/or the look on his face and to his credit, he usually does so quickly.
But it can get old, adjusting his attitude. So this book came along at an excellent time for the two of us. He loves being read to, and then reading the book himself; he loved laughing at the ducks and telling me “whatever!” whenever Wanda said it in the story. Plus, we were able to talk about the emotions/feelings of the star that would be hiding in every scene. Once he found it, then we would decide how it was feeling based on his position and “body language”, and what made it feel that way.
The book is illustrated beautifully and is full of bright colors! And it teaches readers the importance of a good attitude and being able to have a second chance. I’d recommend this book for any parent and family with young children, and it would be great to cover in Sunday school too!
