A great way to spend time as a family on a Friday night? (or any night??)
Family Game Night!
One of our latest faves = Bank It, by Simply Fun
Are you new to Simply Fun? They are a great family company who encourages play! According to their mission statement::
Play allows important human connections to take root, to grow, and to flourish. It allows us to share with each other — to really know each other as human beings.
And I couldn’t agree more! Want to get to know your child? Get in the floor (or at the kitchen table) and play! Interact!
Bank-It is recommended for ages 6 and up and suggested to take about 30 minutes to play a game.
I think it took us a little longer the first time we played – there was a lot of decision making happening. And I just happen to be a momma with very analytical kiddos. I have no idea where they get that!
The object of Bank It:: Be the first player to save $10 in the bank, Donate to charity once and Purchase one item from each of the four stores at the mall. I love that!
This game is not only teaching kids (and adults) the importance of saving money, but also the importance of giving to others.
This game functions similarly to another well-known game in America where the player moves around the board buying properties and charging rent to his opponents. You know the one? In Bank-It, players must earn and save money ($10) to purchase a bike, yet at the same time, each must purchase an item from each of the 4 stores at the mall. Should he wait on an item to go on sale? Or will his opponent beat him to the finish line?? That is one of the many critical decisions a player must make throughout the game.
While the coins of this game do not resemble ‘real’ money, therefore not teaching or reinforcing the denominations of money, children will definitely practice their ‘change making’ skills.
The brilliant design of this game has a ‘shopping mall’ insert in the center. The board is inside the box, and each player tracks their bank balance on the side of the box using a sliding money clip of their chosen color.
Want to teach your children to think of others, spend wisely, all while saving, saving, saving??
Put Bank-It on your shopping list for the holidays!
